K1 Speed has been open for just under three weeks, and hubby and I finally made our way over to check it out. It was just the midweek spark I didn’t know I needed!
First of all, this place is huge—much bigger than I expected based on the photos. I was pleasantly surprised by how spacious it is, with plenty of room to lounge, chill, and eat (three of my favorite things to do). Best part? There’s no admission cost, so you can bring your whole crew along and only pay for those who are racing. There are also a lot of cool spots throughout to take some fun photos!

We didn't need a reservation. We showed up for Arrive & Drive which is easy, first-come-first-serve. After signing our waivers and getting a quick safety briefing, it was go time! You’ll get a cloth head sock to wear under your helmet (helmets are fresh and clean, because the place is brand new!). The karts are pristine! The track is sleek, and the vibe is total adrenaline.

In case you're not familiar with K1 Speed, it's a totally indoors venue, and the karts are 100% electric.
Each race is 12 laps. My husband passed me once (almost twice, but I think he was trying to be nice.) These karts are fast (capable of reaching up to 45 MPH), and there are fans blowing across the track, so it actually feels like you're racing in the wind. There’s even a boost button on the kart, but I wasn’t brave enough to hit it. I suppose it gives you a temporary increase in power, but I was zooming just fine on my own, thank you! Also, I LOVED screaming through a sharp curve and hearing it echo through the whole place (or maybe the echo was just in my head).
The setup around the track includes lots of seating, which is perfect for watching races or just hanging out. Check out some of my photos below. This is an awesome venue for a group outing or party. The Paddock Lounge serves up crave-worthy classics such as stone-fired Italian pizzas, wings, and sliders, plus beer and wine!

Now, let’s talk about the arcade. Usually, arcades in places like this feel like an afterthought. But not here. The arcade is a whole attraction in itself. I hopped on a motorcycle game and an airplane game, and both had hydraulic lifts that moved with the game. I was honestly impressed! We played basketball, and I even won a Hello Kitty stuffy from one of those claw machines (they’re not all rigged, apparently!).
There’s definitely a fun, energetic vibe here, and since we visited a week or two before the end of summer break, we saw a good amount of families, teens, and especially boys. I think K1 Speed would make the perfect Friday night outing or birthday party spot for your little (or not-so-little) guy. Of course, it’s fun for everyone, but I loved seeing boys and their dads bonding over speed and games.
All in all, 10/10 recommend.
K1 Speed is located at 15 S Trade Center Pkwy in The Woodlands.
