Free Midweek Hangout for Cool, Creative Tweens & Teens (Worth the Short Drive!)

If you've never heard of The Cool Kids Table at Baldwin Boettcher Branch Library, it's one of those hidden gems that's worth knowing about.

Yes, it's technically in Humble, but don't let that stop you. I've found it to be an easy drive for a free program that's genuinely worthwhile. From Old Town Spring it's only about 10 minutes, and from The Woodlands you can hop on I-45, take the Hardy Toll Road, and exit FM 1960.

Every Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. to noon, tweens and teens ages 11-17 are invited to hang out, get creative, and make something fun. With the school year starting back up, this could be an especially great option for homeschool families looking to add a little creativity and social time to the week.

One of my favorite things about this program is that it's different every week. My daughters have made all kinds of projects over the years—from art activities to science experiments and hands-on crafts. Most recently, they painted these adorable peg dolls, and I loved that each child was encouraged to make theirs completely unique.

This Ariel doll set was made by one of the other girls, and I thought it was too cute to not share:

The library usually posts the upcoming projects a few weeks in advance (although sometimes we just show up and let it be a surprise!). Coming up over the next few weeks are activities like:

  • Friction Racing
  • Relax with Watercolor
  • Weaving Fall Leaf Coasters

The Baldwin Boettcher Branch Library is located at 22248 Aldine Westfield Road, and it shares a parking lot with the Mercer Botanic Gardens.
The Cool Kids Table program is designed for teens and tweens ages 11-17 and includes games, crafts, and other creative activities. Registration is preferred but not required, so you're welcome to drop in.
