Me too! Which is why I love sharing that the Montgomery County Hospital District (MCHD) offers several valuable classes at no cost, helping local families gain practical skills that could make a real difference in an emergency. The classes are primarily held at the MCHD Administration Building, located at 1400 S. Loop 336 W, Conroe, TX 77304.
When someone experiences cardiac arrest, minutes matter. The sooner blood flow is restored to the brain, the greater the chance of a positive outcome. While MCHD's paramedics are highly trained, immediate bystander CPR can dramatically improve survival rates before first responders arrive.
Free Heartsaver® CPR AED Classes
MCHD is offering the Heartsaver CPR AED course throughout September, October, November, and December 2026.
This 3.5-hour class teaches participants how to:
- Perform CPR on adults, children, and infants
- Use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) safely and effectively
- Respond confidently during a cardiac emergency
- Follow the latest American Heart Association Guidelines for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC)
This class is ideal for anyone with little or no medical training who wants to be prepared for an emergency or needs an OSHA-compliant CPR certification.
Free Heartsaver® CPR AED First Aid Classes
If you want even more comprehensive training, MCHD is also offering the Heartsaver CPR AED First Aid course during September, October, and November 2026.
The class runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and includes instruction on:
- CPR techniques for adults, children, and infants
- Proper use of an AED
- How to recognize common medical emergencies
- Basic first aid skills
- How and when to call for help
- Lifesaving response techniques for a variety of situations
This course is ideal for parents, grandparents, caregivers, coaches, teachers, church volunteers, and anyone who wants additional emergency preparedness training.
Free Safe Sitter® Classes for Tweens
MCHD is also offering Safe Sitter® classes in September, October, and December 2026. Two of my daughters took this class in their tween years, and it's time for me to sign up my youngest child!
Safe Sitter is a nationally recognized program designed to prepare students to stay home alone safely, care for younger siblings, and babysit responsibly.
Participants learn:
- Basic first aid and emergency response
- Indoor and outdoor safety skills
- Choking rescue techniques
- How to handle household emergencies
- Child care basics, including feeding and entertaining children
- Behavior management strategies
- Personal safety skills
More than 175 lives have reportedly been saved by Safe Sitter graduates using the skills they learned through the program.
If your child is beginning to stay home alone, watch younger siblings, or show interest in babysitting, this is an excellent opportunity to build confidence and important life skills.
