The FIFA World Cup 2026 is coming to Houston, and friends… it's gonna be BIG. Even if your family doesn’t normally follow soccer (mine doesn't!), this is one of those exciting moments where the entire area starts buzzing with energy, international culture, team spirit, and nonstop fun.
Houston will welcome visitors from all over the world, and restaurants, sports bars, and public gathering spaces across the city are expected to be packed with cheering fans. Families will have plenty of opportunities to join in on the excitement, even right here in The Woodlands.
With so many kids in our area already involved in soccer, it’ll be especially fun seeing the excitement spill into local parks, watch parties, and summer conversations. This is the perfect excuse to gather friends, explore new foods and cultures, enjoy community events, and create some seriously fun summer memories with your kids!

Where to Watch the Matches in The Woodlands Area
Many local restaurants and sports bars will be showing World Cup matches throughout the tournament, making it easy to catch the action with fellow fans. If you're looking for game-day atmosphere, food, drinks, and plenty of screens, consider checking out:
- Southern Ice Co.
- Kirby Ice House
- On The Kirb
- Yard House
- Lankford's
- Sawyer Park Icehouse
As the tournament progresses, additional venues may announce special watch parties and promotions, so be sure to check with your favorite local spots before heading out.
Throw a World Cup Party at Home
This might be one of the easiest ways to make summer feel extra special this year. Pick a game, invite a few friends over, and go all in with team colors, international snacks, soccer cupcakes, mocktails, glow sticks, and backyard soccer games for the kids. If you don't have a soccer goal set, here's a cute one that includes nets, a soccer ball, and cones.

Let everyone choose a country to cheer for, and suddenly, even the little kids become INVESTED. Your older kids and teenagers might especially love a late-night watch party, build your own nachos, international candy taste tests, and music playlists inspired by different countries.
Definitely invest in an affordable foosball table, such as this one by Best Choice Products, to add an extra level of excitement to your event!
And of course, you'll need to have the match on the big screen! All 104 matches will be broadcast live. FOX will televise 70 matches (including the final), while FS1 will carry 34. You can stream games on the FOX Sports Site or the FOX One streaming experience. (Because FOX and Telemundo are major broadcast networks, a large portion of the tournament—including the host nation's opening matches and the final—can be watched for free with a standard digital antenna.)
Turn the World Cup Into a Family Adventure
One of the coolest parts of the World Cup is seeing so many countries and cultures represented all in one place.
This is such a fun opportunity to help kids explore geography and different cultures. Here are a few easy ideas to take advantage of the learning opportunity:
- make “passports” for the kids
- learn about a new country before each game
- cook international meals together
- listen to music from different regions
- decorate with flags
This could turn into SUCH a memorable summer learning experience without it feeling like school at all.
Enjoy the Atmosphere in Houston

You don't really want to drive all the way to Houston this summer, do you? ACTUALLY, YES, you do! Local officials and tourism organizers expect up to 500,000 visitors to travel to Houston during the tournament. Of course, that means heavier traffic, busier restaurants, and more activity throughout Houston than usual. But there’s also something really exciting about experiencing a city while it’s absolutely alive with energy and people from all over the world.
Picture this: jerseys everywhere, people speaking different languages, packed outdoor patios, giant viewing screens, music, international foods, kids kicking soccer balls around public spaces, fans cheering together from all over the world. This is what I'm imagining, and I'm already sooo excited. (Mind you, I'm the type of mom who loves going to the mall during Black Friday Christmas shopping, just for the energy of it all!)
So go in with patience, extra travel time, and a sense of adventure, and head down to H-Town for some fun! It won't be the time for “let’s rush in and out of Houston quickly.” But it could absolutely be the week for strolling, people watching, and soaking in the atmosphere.
World Cup Survival Tips for Woodlands Families:
- Leave earlier than you think you need to
- Expect surge pricing and packed parking garages
- Bring portable chargers
- Make restaurant reservations if possible (I recommend eating at ChopNBlok!)
- Keep water/snacks in the car
Fun Houston Spots To Explore During World Cup Season

Even without match tickets, there are so many fun places your family could explore while enjoying the citywide energy. A few ideas:
POST Houston
Rooftop views, food halls, live entertainment, and one of the coolest city atmospheres in Houston. Earlier this year, POST welcomed The Art of Soccer exhibition (featured above), a campaign that brings together Houston artists and businesses to celebrate the world’s game through creativity and community spirit.
The Museum District
Perfect for families wanting to combine culture, air conditioning, and adventure.
- Houston Museum of Natural Science
- Children’s Museum Houston
- Museum of Fine Arts
- Hermann Park
Discovery Green
A great spot to watch for fan events, outdoor programming, music, and possible World Cup activations.
The Galleria
If your teens love shopping or ice skating, this area will probably feel especially lively during the tournament.

Make It a "Soccer Summer" To Remember
There’s something exciting about being near a major worldwide event like this. Who knows? Maybe your family will watch the matches. Maybe your kids will become obsessed with soccer for two weeks or beyond. Maybe you'll explore Houston in a completely new way. Maybe you'll simply enjoy the feeling of being part of something global happening right in your backyard.
Either way, I think families around The Woodlands are going to have a lot of fun with the World Cup coming to Houston.
