If you use Hoopla through the Montgomery County Memorial Library System (MCMLS), take note: the digital streaming service will no longer be available beginning August 1, 2026.
According to MCMLS, the decision was made after evaluating both costs and patron usage. Because Hoopla operates on a pay-per-use model, the library says it has become financially unsustainable to continue offering the service.
The good news is that the funds previously used for Hoopla will be redirected to the library's other digital resources, including OverDrive/Libby. Library officials say this change will allow them to purchase additional copies of high-demand eBooks and audiobooks, helping reduce wait times for popular titles.
MCMLS patrons will also continue to benefit from reciprocal digital lending partnerships with Harris County Public Library, Houston Public Library, Beaumont Public Library System, Bryan + College Station Public Library System, and Round Rock Public Library System, providing access to more than 540,000 eBooks and audiobooks through OverDrive/Libby.
If you currently use Hoopla, you'll want to enjoy any remaining checkouts before the service ends on August 1.
