National Youth Theater (NYT) announces its upcoming summer community production of Newsies, the high-energy Disney musical inspired by the real-life Newsboys Strike of 1899.
Set in turn-of-the-century New York City, Newsies follows Jack Kelly and a spirited group of newspaper sellers as they rise up against powerful publishers to fight for fairness and their future. When newspaper prices are suddenly raised at their expense, the “newsies” find themselves pushed to the breaking point—sparking an unexpected movement built on courage, unity, and the belief that even the smallest voices can create lasting change. Packed with dynamic choreography, bold storytelling, and unforgettable songs including “Seize the Day,” “Santa Fe,” “King of New York,” and “Carrying the Banner,” this high-energy production brings the streets of New York to life in a vibrant celebration of resilience, friendship, and standing up for what’s right.
The talented cast, comprised of performers ages 14–99, will present Newsies July 31–August 2 and August 7–9 at the Lone Star College–Tomball Performing Arts Center, located at 30555 Tomball Parkway in Tomball, TX.
The directorial team includes director Shana Manna, assistant director Rachel Holland, vocal director Nikki Gould and choreographer Abigail Baker.
