Jellystone Park might be your family's new favorite getaway

If you’re looking for a fun getaway that the kids will love (without catching a flight or doing a ton of planning) and a place where they can actually be outside and busy all day, Jellystone Park is one to have on your radar.

With over 75 Jellystone Park Camp-Resort locations across the United States and Canada, they're a family-focused destination built around fun, flexibility, and just enough structure to make your life easier while you’re vacationing.

The best part (because we love a good, easy getaway): Woodlands families have several Jellystone locations just a short drive away.

Jellystone Park in Waller, TX is about a 45-minute drive from The Woodlands and great for a quick overnight or weekend stay. The location in Tyler, TX is a great middle option at just under 3 hours away. There's also a location in Burleson, TX (Dallas-Fort Worth area), still an easy 3.5-hour drive from The Woodlands and ideal for a longer weekend or mini vacation.

But wait… What Is Jellystone Park?

Jellystone is built around the Yogi Bear theme, but that doesn't mean it’s just character meet-and-greets (although yes, those are part of the fun). It's really more like a family campground + activity resort + kid entertainment hub, all in one. It's perfect for younger kids, but older kids and teens are sure to find something they enjoy as well!

For lodging, there are wonderful cabins (some are simple, while others are more "glamping" style), RVs, tents (great if you're feeling adventurous), and other fun options. The Burleson location even has pirate ship suite cabins, silos (cozy for couples), tipis, and covered wagons to sleep in!

What Your Kids Will Probably Love

At Jellystone, there is always something going on, which means you’re not hearing “what are we doing next?” every five minutes. Activities vary by location, but you’ll typically find lots of water fun (splash pads, pools, water slides), plus some locations have full-on playgrounds. Outdoor playtime really shines here, with jumping pads, playground areas, mini golf, bike riding paths, trackless train rides, and ball courts!

If you're a mom who enjoys a bit more structure, you'll be pleased to know that the park typically offers scheduled activities such as arts & crafts, tie-dye projects, games, and contests. Also, themed weekends are a big deal, so be sure to check the calendar and see what's going on the week you plan to visit.

Of course it wouldn't be a Yogi-themed park if there were no famous, smiling bear around! During your stay, expect appearances from Yogi Bear, Boo Boo, and Cindy Bear. Your family will also delight in planned dance parties as well as parades around the park.

Waller vs. Burleson vs. Tyler: Which One Should You Choose?

All three locations are great, but they do have slightly different vibes. Waller is closer and easier, and I recommend this location if you want something low-commitment or if you're testing out this whole "camping" thing for the first time.

If you have younger kids that won't tolerate a longer drive, Waller's a quick trip (I've literally been in traffic on College Park Dr during the construction phase longer than the time it takes to get to Waller). And of course, it's Jellystone Park, so even though it's not far, it still feels special. They're also only a 15-minute drive from Dewberry Farm, a wonderful theme park that is open seasonally in the spring, fall, and winter with more than 40 fun family rides and attractions!

Choose the Burleson location if you want a full vacation experience, or if you're looking for newer amenities and upgraded lodging options. Click here to see all their loding options, including their well-appointed bunkhouse rooms and the spacious bunkhouse apartment that provides hotel-like comforts.

If you're traveling with older kids and teens and want additional things to do away from the park, Burleson is an 18-minute drive to Fort Worth, TX with even more family-fun activities such as a zoo, museums, the famous Fort Worth Stockyards with a daily cattle drive, and more! It's also half an hour's drive to Six Flags, if you're looking to add huge thrills like roller coaster rides to your vacation. (If you ride the New Texas Giant, send us some photos!) In summary, this Jellystone location could be made to feel like a destination trip rather than just a quick escape.

Lastly, I'd choose Tyler if I wanted a change of scenery and a further drive than Waller without going over the 3-hour driving mark. As a city itself, Tyler is a cute little town to explore with lakes, a state park, adventurous trails, and scenic campgrounds.

Why Woodlands Moms Love Jellystone

We moms are usually the ones doing the planning and coordinating, and if your kids are young, you're probably also doing all the packing and figuring out how to keep everyone happy. Jellystone makes ALL of that easier!

  • There’s built-in entertainment all day long
  • You don’t have to leave the property to have fun
  • Kids can be active, outside, and off screens
  • It’s structured enough to feel organized, but relaxed enough to not feel rigid

And maybe the biggest win is that your kids will go to bed tired and happy!

  • Pack bikes or scooters if you have them
  • Bring easy meals or snacks (or plan simple meals on-site)
