Volunteering is a from-the-heart endeavor that allows you to help yourself while at the same time helping others. Best of all, you can volunteer today! You usually don’t have to be an expert of any kind.
Volunteer today with any of these organizations:
Houston Food Bank
Volunteers make it possible for The Houston Food Bank to distribute more than 30 million pounds of food annually to nearly 400 programs, such as food pantries, homeless shelters, safe havens for women and children, and other nonprofit organizations that work directly with the elderly.
San Jacinto Girl Scouts
Being a Girl Scout volunteer will give you a chance to meet new people, spend your time meaningfully, use your talents and skills, and learn new ones. Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council offer adults an exciting opportunity to partner with an organization of timeless character, genuine purpose, and far-reaching promise; the promise that Girl Scouting is for every girl, everywhere.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Houston
Big Brothers Big Sisters matches children between the ages of 6-15, who are primarily from single-parent families, with volunteer adult mentors. Both the children and their parents receive training on communication skills and empowerment in addition to invitations to on-going training sessions and annual BBBS events.
Prevent Blindness Texas
Our volunteers, The Visionaries, are trained and certified to provide adult and child vision screening. The Visionaries actively provide weekend screenings for the community and assist in other projects, which may include supportive services for State Office and Branch Offices.
Local volunteers serving as Houston Greeter host individuals for two to four hour visits to one of the city’s local attractions or cultural destinations, such as the Museum District, Galveston beaches, or one of the areas historical neighborhoods.
Meals on Wheels
The program delivers hot nutritious meals to the homebound elderly, spending a few minutes with each client as a friendly visit. The agency provides meals to a daily average of 142 persons.
Volunteers are needed throughout the year on a variety of programs and projects. We seek volunteers with a wide range of backgrounds and skills, and we offer short-term and ongoing positions for volunteers to work, learn and grow alongside Girls Incorporated of Greater Houston’s girls and staff.
Covenant House Texas
You can be the first to greet a young person seeking services from Covenant House Texas! Volunteers answer phone calls, provide walk-in services such as preparing sack lunches and hygiene kits, keep records on clients, and interview youth wishing to be admitted to our programs.
Habitat for Humanity
We are a unique volunteer experience - the tangible results of a day on the construction site or the emotional involvement in a family's growth are things that make the Habitat experience more fulfilling than you can ever imagine. We give volunteers an opportunity to not only make a difference, but also make a connection with a family moving toward stability, entitlement, and home ownership.
