Tell us about your business:
Jabberwocky Art Camp, located in The Woodlands, is a summer day camp for kids ages 5 - 11.
How did you get started with your business?
I worked with a friend on a similar and very popular camp in Houston for many years, but I've lived in The Woodlands for 10 years now and want to provide this imaginative, engaging program for the children of our area.
How much time do you spend each week working your business?
I probably average 2-3 hours of work most days of the week. Even though Jabberwocky Art Camp is a small summer program, it requires several months of careful planning to be the best we can be.
Do you have any special tips for balancing family life and work?
I'm a big believer in not over-scheduling. My stress level rises when I don't have time to stop and smell the roses.
What motivates you?
I'm a bit of a perfectionist and believe that anything worth doing is worth doing well. I like to make a difference.
What do you consider to be your biggest strength?
I'm a creative problem solver and I stay organized. This combination of traits allows me to stay on top of small problems so they don't become big ones.
What would you like to be doing five years from now?
I hope I'm still living in The Woodlands with my husband, loudly supporting my two sons in their extreme sports, and living each day with gratitude and adventure.
What's your advice to other moms who want to start their own business?
There are so many surprisingly unusual niches that businesses are successfully filling these days. The Internet makes it easy for suppliers and demanders to meet. So if someone has a concept they feel strongly about and think they can make a business out of it, I say go for it!
