Mostly Free Classes for Moms and Kids

If you've ever wanted to learn to sew, decorate your table for Thanksgiving or try-out yoga, you are in luck!  We've done some digging around and have found quite a few stores in our area that offer free or low-priced classes for adults to learn almost anything you can dream of! 


There's no shortage of classes for kids, either!  From Lego building to wood work, you're bound to find something your kid's are interested in!


For the Moms



Each week, lululemon located on Market Street in The Woodlands pushes their products aside and offers a fitness class for the community. Classes are complimentary and lead by instructors from local studios in our community. This month it's boot-camp style fitness open to all levels, on Wednesdays at 7:00pm  For all the information, Visit website.


Apple Stores

With all these new devices, Apps, iThis and iThat it can get a little confusing to just answer your phone these days!  Luckily, the Apple store at The Woodlands Mall offers free workshops to teach the basics or take the skills you already have to a new level.  They have so many great classes, check them out and register here:  Visit website

Hobby Lobby

Hobby Lobby offers wonderful craft classes almost every day of the week.  You will find classes on fashion design, cake decorating, painting, sewing and much more.  Most of their classes are offered for free, but some may charge a small fee for participation.  Hobby Lobby is located on Sawdust Road in The Woodlands and their full calendar can be found here:  Visit website.

Jo Ann Fabrics

Jo Ann Fabrics located just south of The Woodlands on I-45 holds several classes mostly aimed at sewing, quilting and jewelry making.  These classes have a fee associated with them, but make sure to check their website for class coupons which will most times save you up to 50 percent:  Visit website.

Pottery Barn

Pottery Barn in the courtyard at The Woodlands Mall is in the business of making your home look beautiful.  Every Sunday they offer classes - home décor, furniture arranging, holiday decorating and more.  Classes are typically at 10 a.m. and require an RSVP:  Visit website



After you learn how to set your table for the holidays, go grab lunch and then head to Williams-Sonoma for one of their free cooking technique classes.  They offer many different classes each Sunday at 2 p.m. from knife skills to quick dinner ideas to smoothie recipes!  They also offer more in-depth cooking classes for those looking to add some spice to your meals.  These classes are around 2 hours long, require reservations and have a small fee, but you do get a nice discount in the store as well!  For all the dates and class offerings: Visit website.


Home Depot

Do-it-your/herselfer's from all skill levels will find something fun to build at Home Depot's workshops.  Tired of nagging at the man in your life to update the toilet?  No worries, you can learn to do it yourself plus pick the perfect color to paint the walls afterwards every Saturday from 10-11:30:  Visit website.



Michaels, located in the Portofino shopping center in The Woodlands, has some great classes as well as demonstrations for the crafty Mom!  They also have paper crafting, painting and jewelry making.  Be sure to check out the Events and Classes pages for all they have to offer: Visit website.  

For the Kids

Hobby Lobby

Hobby Lobby offers kid's classes during the week and on weekends in painting and sewing.  Classes are a bit longer, so would be best for the older kids in the family and require registration: Visit website. 

Jo Ann Fabrics

Jo Ann's offers the Kids Studio where kids can learn how to sew lazy pants, quilt a pillow or make a holiday cake.  Classes are usually around $35 and you must register at:  Visit website.

Apple Stores

This is actually a camp offered for kids ages 8-12 where they learn to make iMovies.  They shoot their own footage, make music for the background and at the end, have an iFestival for their families.  The camp is free and offered next summer.  Put it on your iReminder!  Visit website.

Lowes Build and Grow

Build and Grow Clinics are free to the public and occur on select Saturdays at 10 a.m. They typically consist of a wood project like a fire truck, car or treasure box and typically follow a Disney theme.  Kids who participate also get a free apron, goggles and a patch!  For locations and project details: Visit website.



Michael's offers family craft times on Saturdays from 1-3 p.m. as a come and go.  Some classes will be a small fee for supplies.  They also offer sessions starting every half hour on Saturdays from 10:00am - 11:30 p.m. where your kids explore their creativity while you shop! This is only $2 per child for 30 minutes. Children will make age-appropriate, holiday crafts:  Visit website.


Lego Stores

The LEGO Store in The Woodlands Mall offers a free LEGO build on the first Tuesday of every month at 5 p.m. where your child can learn how to build a cool mini model, and take it home  for free! Quantities are limited and it's a good idea to arrive early as the line can often be out of the store!  A new model will be available every month and will be specially themed to that month.  This class is open to children ages 6 to 14 only. Home Depot

Home Depot offers FREE hands-on workshops; designed for children ages 5 - 12 on the 1st Saturday of every month at all The Home Depot stores between 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Workshops teach children do-it-yourself skills, tool safety and instill a sense of pride and accomplishment.  All kids get to keep their project, receive a FREE certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin. Visit website.

Lakeshore Learning Center

Every Saturday from 11-3, Lakeshore Learning Center located in the Portofino Shopping Center in The Woodlands, offers free crafts for kids!  Kids can make musical instruments, window decorations, puppets and more!   Visit website. your social media marketing partner
